Before We Say “Cheese”
Where do the family photo shoots take place?
At a location of your choice — that could be the beach, forest, lake, or the comfort of your own home. I cover Mossel Bay, George, Sedgefield, Wilderness, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay and surrounding areas. Most locations are included in the package price, with a small travel fee for some locations.
What is the best time of day for a family photo shoot?
The best time for your family shoot is usually golden hour — about 1 hour before sunset. This gives us beautiful, soft, natural light.
In summer, sunset is around 7:30pm, while in winter it’s around 5:30pm. We recommend meeting at least 1 hour before sunset so we have plenty of time for the shoot.
Early mornings or even sunrise is another option.
Cloudy days are also great for shooting, the clouds act as a natural diffuser guaranteeing soft light at any time during daylight hours.
How many people can be included in a family shoot?
I don’t charge per person — I charge based on the time of the shoot, so you can include as many family members as you like.
I’ve photographed large family groups of 20+ people. As a general guide:
- 1–10 people: 1-hour shoot
- 10–20 people: 2-hour shoot
- 20+ people: Custom quote required
The larger the group, the more time we need to capture both the full family and smaller group combinations.
Can we request specific photos or poses?
Yes. I can adapt the shoot to suit your personality and style — whether you prefer traditional posed photos, natural candid moments, or a mix of both.
And if you have no idea what you want, that’s completely fine! I’ll guide you through the shoot and keep things relaxed and fun.
The goal is simple: have a great experience, create beautiful photos, and leave with wonderful memories.
What should we wear to our family photo shoot?
Choose 2–3 complementary colours rather than matching everyone exactly. Neutral, earthy and soft tones work beautifully, while brighter colours can add personality.
Keep patterns and logos subtle, and avoid loud graphics or neon colours. Most importantly, wear something comfortable that you feel good in.
Consider the location too — light, relaxed clothing works well at the beach, while earthy layers suit forests and parks. Adding textures like linen, denim, knits or cotton can also give your photos more depth.

Can you recommend a location for our family shoot?
Travel
Travel to most areas within the garden route is covered in the package. Additional travel expense will be communicated should it apply.
Cancellation
Cancellations or date change requests must be done 72 hours before the booking date. Booking fee will only be refunded if the shoot is cancelled 72 hours before the booking date or in the event that the shoot can not take place due to severe weather.
When do I get my photos?
Lead time for photos:
In-season: 7 - 14 working days
Any other time: 5 - 7 working days
(Excluding weekends and public holidays)
A digital download link will be supplied.
